BFI Notes

Starter:
  • ·         The last British Film I watched was 'I’ll Manors'
  • ·         The fact that the location was in London and that the actors where predominantly British gave me the impression that this was indeed a British Film.
  • ·         I believe that the recognition of the famous location of London would be appealing to a British audience and also the social realism portrayed in this film.
  • ·         I do also believe that the famous locations will be also appealing to an international audience.

Attack The Block

I believe that the mise en scene used in this film is still very effective as this is a low budget film. This movie is based on degenerate teenagers who come across  alien like creatures on earth. This film was released in May 2011.The Film is regarded as a urban sci fi action film. The film I would say is aimed at 12-25 years old. This movie is begins when an unfortunate young lady and a group of intense young teenagers attempt to protect and shield their territory against weird alien like animals. This transformed a South London into a battle region.

The character of the main actor John Boyega  was strolling home on Bonfire Night through "The Ends" in Brixton, new-to-the-territory medical caretaker Samantha Adams is robbed by a group: Pest, Dennis, Jerome, Biggz, and pioneer Moses. The assault on the characters stop as they notice something falling from the sky. Due to this encounter Samantha gets away. As Moses pursuits the disaster , his face is scratched by a eyeless mysterious creature. The animal flees and gets away, however the group pursue and execute it.

Moses asks Ron and his manager, nearby  to keep the animal in their strengthened “weed room" while he chooses how to continue. More questions tumble from the sky. Willing to battle the animals, the group arm themselves and go to the closest crash site.  They discover these outsiders are much bigger and gorilla-sized,.

Escaping the outsiders, the group is now then is caught by two policemen and Moses is captured, recognised as a mugger by Samantha. The outsiders, taking after Moses, batter the police to death and assault their van, leaving Samantha and Moses caught inside. Dennis achieves the vehicle and pushes the van away. Samantha flees while whatever remains of Moses' pack gets up to speed.
